These 'alani are found in the saddle kipukas. They start out looking a bit like vines and become small trees or bushes, with leaves 1-2 inches long. They are apparently melicope clusiifolia, with whorls of 2-4 per node. However, they are a bit different in appearance than the more widespread variety shown in my melicope clusiifolia gallery. The more common variety is even found in some of these same kipukas, not far from where I found these.
