This is the mud pit where the cyanea colony is located. The surface is covered with leaves and moss, over several inches of wet mud filling the depression. There are a chain of these muddy depressions throughout the area, but I only found the cyanea in this one. About 2/3 of the plants are clustered around the base of the hapu'u at left, a few are under the log on the right, and a couple of are in the middle. The mud pit didn't show any footprints, though a nearby mud pit showed a fairly recent pig wallow, and fresh pig tracks were in the area.
