Pu'u o 'Umi NAR is located on the southern side of Kohala mountain, stretching from the summit region down along the North side of Waimanu Valley to the eastern coastline. You have to drive up a long way through ranch pastures from Kohala mountain road to get to the western NAR fenceline at about 4800 feet elevation. The area is covered by a somewhat stunted and very boggy 'ohi'a forest, with a generous layer of sphagnum and mud on the ground. I'll collect some photos eventually.
