S. Rugosa

Halepohaku, Mauna Kea

Stenogyne rugosa, commonly seen growing under mamane trees on Mauna Kea. It has a strongly upright habit, as opposed to the more familiar vining habit of other stenogyne species. Research indicated that offspring of these upright plants grown in shade developed a vining habit.
