Dry Streambed

I spent a great afternoon with Breland and Gayle who are visiting the national park for a few days. Their photos won't be up for a while as they are having some difficulty connecting to their ISP.
After shooting along the Little River we stood at one of the overlooks a few miles up the Newfound Gap road and watched as a frigid air mass spilled over the top of Mount Leconte. Within minutes the white of snow and rime ice had moved hundreds of feet down the face of the mountain. We took several exposures along the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River near the Chimneys and then moved higher in the park. It became a jump out and shoot before you hands froze and jump back in the car day. In spite of the unexpected cold, which none of us were dressed for, we managed to take more than a few images. The cold of the past two nights has really changed the leaves dramatically. The reds are starting to appear.
