Wears Valley from Hatcher Mountain

The bucolic community of Wears Valley, originally and more correctly named Wears Cove, is between the sprawling amusement park of Pigeon Forge and Townsend, TN. The area was originally slated for inclusion in the National Park owing to its natural beauty. Not having raised sufficient funds, the state of Tennessee could not expropriate this land and it remains a residential/farm community.

I love Wears Valley. It makes me so sad to see it losing its ruralness.

Beautiful shot of the valley Buz. This is one of our favorite areas in Tenn. Is the Wonderland Hotel still open. We stayed at the old one in Elkmont and the new one. Also the road there is a good shortcut to Metcalf Bottoms.

Can the local authority not stop it by refusing the developer permission to build. You know what will happen otherwise... in a couple of years another developer will want to build more, until the reason people want to live there has been destroyed by creeping urbanisation. I really hope you manage to stop it from happening.

What a shame if this is to be lost in the name of 'progress'.

That is the saddest thing that could happen. Why wasn't it made heritage land.

Another unfortunate twist is that the standard construction process is so high impact. Rarely are runoff and drainage issues considered in most planning. No doubt this will all eventually create more flooding issues downstream :( It is so beautiful NOW :)

Beautiful distance view of this mountain. lucky for those who can buy house from the developers because they'll be having a wonderful nature to view every morning they wake up and a really bad news for the locals because it will surely destroy the beauty of this place with houses to be built.. :o)

very nice mountain, i hate development of such beauty but with the exploding population in this country and the lack of government or private sactuary it is inevitable. The pressure on our open spaces is increasing at a rapid pace and only public outcry can save the remaining unprotected spaces. It is a race against time.
