This is one of Andrew's incredible 'Battuto' creations, and battuto literally means 'struck' in Italian, or having a hammered appearance when it relates to glass. To achieve this look, this result, the glass is painstakingly cold worked and ground on a grinder over and over again to bring about this special texture. The work involved is immense, and when you have Andrew's ability to set up the glass just right prior to the coldworking, you end up with a fantastic looking marble like this one.

The marble itself is simply mesmerizing! The contrast of the bands of color with the revealed patterns struck through them is SOOOO sweet. There is also something so organic about these marbles, a quality that seems like it shouldn't present itself so cleanly in glass as we see here.
