Cattleya purpurata var flammea

Smithsonian, Washington DC

A Rose by any other Name

This great cattleya has been the subject of a lot of name
"calling" (read changing) recently. Starting as a Laelia,
and then a Sophronitis, and then back to Laelia then finally
its now a Cattleya. And everytime it changes names all its
progeny are subject to name changes, and C. purpurata has
over 300 registered hybrids as a direct parent.
;o((
You'll notice I have several shots of this plant and other varieties
listed in the Laelia section, guess its time to update the files.
