6th - View

near Great Witcombe, Glos. view map

Looking down over the lakes towards Shurdington and Cheltenham from near Great Witcombe Roman villa. The dark hill directly in the centre of the frame is Bredon Hill, a good 17 miles distant to the north. With the afternoon sun coming low through the trees behind us the contrast between the foreground and the sunlit distance was pretty severe - I *think* this does justice to what we saw though :o)

A perfect way to round off a perfect weekend - a lovely relaxed walk in the sun through the late autumn leaves with tantalising glimpses of the beautiful countryside to distract us...

This is very beautiful. I think that dominant sky and dark foreground really gives depth..
it seems you can see forever.

A fine view on a fine day with clear air. Beautiful. The contrast between light and dark is quite striking. There is something familiar about this place which makes me feel that I might have been here before ...perhaps on a cloudless day in June, when the ditches were creamy with meadowsweet and the air heavy with all the scents of summer.......:)
