Daniel Day-Lewis stars alongside Brenda Fricker in this 1989 story based on Shane Connaughton's screenplay; from IMDB: "Christy Brown is a spastic quadriplegic born to a large, poor Irish family. His mother, Mrs Brown, recognizes the intelligence and humanity in the lad everyone else regards as a vegetable. Eventually, Christy matures into a cantankerous writer who uses his only functional limb, his left foot, to write with"
An amazing film, Day-Lewis excels as Christy Brown and deservedly won an Oscar (as did Brenda Fricker) for his role. However, despite their red carpet appeal, I don't think my tootsies will be winning any awards any time soon...
