Northern Goshawks in-hand, banded at Hawk Ridge!

Adult (2nd-year) female on the left, and juvenile male on the right.

All raptors experience reverse sexual dimorphism, which is where the females are larger than the males. The goshawk on the left is in adult plumage with the fine horizontal barring, in addition to the slate-gray head, dark gray wings and deep tomato-red eyes. The goshawk on the left is a juvenile, with the vertical brown barring and brown wings. Note the size/profile difference between the two birds
