We drove up the north side of Whiteface mountain. The hiking trail, almost 5 miles long and gaining about 1000 feet per mile, would have been too much for us. At the top, there's a visitors center which can be reached by elevator or by a walk over a 0.2 mile stone staircase. This day was mostly cloudy, with winds of over 50 miles per hour, strong enough to blow us sideways if we didn't hang on to those iron railings. Our ears ached, and the view through clouds wasn't that good, so we took the elevator back down! This is Janet, near the top.
