Eagles and Other Birds

About 6 miles from the western entrance to the park, and eagles' nest sat high in a tree. The park service had set aside a 0.25 mile area of roadway in which it was illegal to stop or walk. Photos of the nest were taken at a distance of about 100 yards or more. Just about 0.4 miles beyond the "no stop" zone, the parent eagles would fly to a caribou carcass which lay in a roadside stream. Photos of the eagles feeding were taken at a distance of about 40 yards.

If you look carefully at the photos of the eagles' nest, you can just barely see the heads of the two chicks sticking up out of the nest. There is also a photo of both mother and father eagle sitting on a branch near the nest. Both parents shared responsibility for feeding the chicks.
