A display of medieval plate armor, which developed in Europe during the late
Middle Ages. This armor is made of large steel or iron plates designed to
give the wearer maximum freedom of movement. The type of helmet shown in the
image resembles a sallet, popular in the 15th century. The large plate protecting
the torso is known as a cuirass. The articulated shoulder pieces covering the
shoulders and armpits are called pauldrons. The plates protecting the arms are
known as vambraces.
