The Zuid-Willemsvaart is a canal from the period 1825, dug as a more navigable alternative to the Maas, mainly to promote the connection between industry in the south
and trade in the north of the Netherlands. At the beginning we see the flour factory, a national monument, the oldest parts of which date from 1906.
The factory was known locally as “the maelmuuele van de Venne”. It is still in operation, after several acquisitions as part of a large international cooperative.
