The image shows a Calvary, a type of Christian holy place or monument that represents the
crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The monument includes statues of Jesus on the cross, Mary (left),
and probably John the Evangelist (right). The term "Calvary" derives from the Latin word
calvaria, meaning "skull," as does the Aramaic word "Golgotha," the place of the crucifixion
near Jerusalem. Such monuments are intended to commemorate the Passion of Christ.
The inscription on the pedestal reads: "A VOBIS VICINIS DEI AMABITUR CRUX"
(By you, neighbors of God, the cross will be loved).
