The image shows the historic Vlaaikensgang in Antwerp, a well-preserved alleyway that
offers a snapshot of historical city life. The alleyway dates back to 1591 and originally
connected the Hoogstraat, Oude Koornmarkt, and Pelgrimstraat. The Vlaaikensgang was inhabited
by the city's poorest residents, primarily shoemakers. In the late 1960s, the alleyway was
purchased and renovated by Axel Vervoordt, saving it from demolition. Today, it is a quiet
and picturesque location known for its shops and restaurants, such as the former
Sir Anthony Van Dyck restaurant.
