This is a detail of the monument for Pieter Appelmans, the master architect of Antwerp Cathedral.
The monument pays tribute to Pieter Appelmans (1373-1434) and all the unknown builders of
the cathedral. The sculpture, created by the Belgian sculptor Jef Lambeaux, depicts stonemasons
and master architect Appelmans giving instructions. It has stood in the Handschoenmarkt,
against the wall of the cathedral in Antwerp, since 1935. The sculpture depicts the architect
supervising the builders, emphasizing the cathedral's dedication to craftsmanship.
