The image shows the interior of the Stock Exchange in Antwerp. This historic building is known
as the site of the world's first purpose-built stock exchange, originally opened in 1531.
The building was designed in a flamboyant Gothic style by architect Domien de Waghemakere.
The current neo-Gothic structure dates from 1877, after earlier buildings were destroyed by fire.
The Antwerp Stock Exchange served as a model for other stock exchanges, such as the Royal Exchange
in London. Originally, the courtyard was open, but later it was covered to protect traders.
