This morning is most likely the last day of Summer type weather for a while with a light mist in the wetlands of the Refuge. Back in the backwater shallow areas was a large mass of American White Pelicans (in addition to the one found last tuesday) the string of these magnificent bird stretched the length of the land between it and the lotus field area all the way past the sandbar at the landstrip's point. I would estimate that the pelicans population in this 3/4 mile long area was inexcess of 1200. As the morning progressed the pelicans massed on a scope shore. As I departed this area, the birds were still enjoying the morning sun.
