Wheeler wildlife Refuge - 11/24/2010

While doing a morning "walkabout" I encountered a Doe Whitetail Deer and her two yearling offsprings standing in the water enjoying the last of the "Spring Weather" days of Fall. While they did not notice me, the sound of my high speed shutter was enough to cause them to go back into the wood line for safety from this non-normal sound.

One of the wonderments of observing wildlife is the beauty a healthy female deer with her healthy young quickly living and enjoying life. While I have hunted deer for food, that demand is no longer a neccessity for my family. Now it seems strange that many harvest the most healthy deer who are the source of a stronger breed of deer instead of culling the small and weak deer who are just as tasty but lack the breeding qualities.

Deer as captured with the camera like these are plentiful in the Refuge.....IF....youur are patient and only hunt the game that are not trophy types thus allowing them to be strong breeding stock for future generations of healthy animals and those people yet to be born and taught how a real sportsman's values are applied in Nature.
