The Sandhill Cranes have returned for another season. In a few weeks the count should be about 4000 plus. The waterfowl are arriving every day now so the Refuge is getting over the Summer slumber period with the Visitor Center open even days a week.

This date the Refuge held their annual "Lost in the Woods" program where adults and children learn what to do if lost in the woods so that the search people can locate them more easily and the "lost" be in good shape when found. The three words to remember are "Stay, Dry, and Warm". In the inside session the persons attending learned how to stay in a good location, keep dry, and also warm. Outside the search dogs gave a demonstration of how well they work at finding someone who is alive, bleeding, or dead. The specially trained and registered animals are eager to search and rescue.
