Instead of a normal Monday survey of WNWR...met the members of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service stationed at Wheeler. At 6 A.M. departed for the Key Cave Refuge located west of Florence, Alabama, which is just off the Tennessee River. There surveyed this area with the camera and slightly assisted these dedicated wildlife people is re-signing, clearing trails, and just plain ole clean-up of trash.

Key Cave Refuge is an interesting place for observing grassland wildlife such as the quail, grouse, woodcocks, and burrowing owl which has started nesting in this area. At Key Cave is the Alabama Cavefish, Speoplatyrhinus poulsoni, a blind, pale fish found nowhere else in the world and is Federally protected.
