Today was a good bright HOT sunny day at WNR. Activities were varied....but of importance was the youth day camp conducted by the Rangers and their Assistances on learning a little about Nature and Wildlife forms. While the Observation Pond is in the process of being drained for the Summer Season, the Lotus (aka Water Lillies) have taken over the pond's damp bottom. Hopefully it can be sprayed before the seeds pop out and more loutus are take root. Interesting enough,, the lotus live better in damp soil or shallow water, and if the pond level could be raised....the lotus would not crowd out the food sources normally in a diving pond enviroment. But, such is Nature and the lack of funding at the Federal Budget level for "weed" control.
