The Crane/Waterfowl Migratory season is about over for the 2016-2017 time period. The Sandhill Cranes have dwindled from over 17,000 to somewhere about 100 as these birds caught the jet steam to head North. Water fowl have dropped to less than 20 thousand for the time being. BUT, with these birds departures for Spring and Summer their spots will be replaced by "song" birds, wild flowers, mammals, and the hundreds of species of butterflies that make their Summer home at WNWR. Beside there are species of waterfowl that continue to come through this National Refuge.......you just have to look sharper as you travel the trails and service roads now that many areas are open for the general public. Always a great spot to enjoy what our Creator has given mankind to harvest, protect, and increase the numbers. Visit the Visitor Center for maps and details Tuesday through Saturday.
