Today was an especially good morning. The nine young Whooping cranes air escorted to the Refuge a few weeks back were turned-out from their holding pen now that the electronic monitors are attached to each "whooper". Counting the 4 adults within the Refuge and the adult/ 2 immature whoopers that mainly stay at the Visitor Center's Observation area.....our Whooping Crane population is now at 16. Very shortly the remainder of the Sandhill and these whooper will catch an Northern "jet stream" and spend the Summer in Wisconsin until Fall when they will return to WNR.
