Saturday was the Festival of the Cranes at WNWR. The early morning hours we received heavy thunderstorms, then the weather faired with a brisk Northern wind late in the afternoon. Public turn out was impressive with over two thousand visitors. This is the second year of the festival and should be even better next year. At the Visitor Center's Observation Building those attending had opportunities to view, first hand, some of the over 39,000 water fowl, over 10,000 Sandhill Cranes, and 28 Whooping Cranes (tracked by radio & satellite) which are Wintering at WNWR.
