My Grandfather (Pop) courting my Grandmother (Memmie) prior to their marriage just before WWI. One interesting point was that Pop was at the train station a day or two after this photo to catch a train so as to join the first world war in France. As the train pulled in the latest news off the train was that the war in europe had ended. So Pop took his pillow, clothes, and blanket and did not join the U.S. Army. His motivation for joining was due to a favorite uncle of his being injured by the gas attacks by the Germans on the doughboys and his kinsman. So Pop went back to his home in the country and started working on a way to earn money so he and her could get married. Thanks to his father his enjoyment and full filling work was secured in a partnership between them.
