My Grandmother and Grandfather during the late forties conducting registration for a drawing for the latest cookware in the kitchen department of their Department Store. The Store had mens, childrens & lady clothing; cosmetics; jewerly; shoes; appliances; and hardware. They also did "book-credit-accounts for the rural farmers who would clear their accounts as the crops came in and were sold in the Fall. In an adjacent build the family bought and sold cotton, fertilizer, seed, mules, and stored cotton for those farmers who desired to speculate on the market prices. If there was a service needed in the community, they would develop it or help others develop it since with growth their business would increase no matter who had the new services needed. One thing that I have always been proud of about them was their actions during the Great Depression. While they had "debt markers and quick deeds" they never forclosed on a farmer's property and home. They both had been there during re-construction of the Southern states after the Civil War.
