At the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge all forms of life are respected be bird, mammal, flower, reptile, or insect. On this day a very large chicken snake (6'1") was observed in a Hooded Mergabser nesting box that is equiped with a video monitoring t.v. into the visitors center. (Note: this is the third visit from this particular snake.) So the Rangers went out to the site and removed the snake from the box and relocated it to another part of the Refuge's wetlands. Upon examination of the nest it appears the snake had already swalled 4 of the 11 eggs. But such is the life at the Refuge and the duties of a Ranger.
