The Battle of Antietam (or Sharpsburg as it's known in the South) on September 17, 1862 brought Gen. Robert E. Lee and Gen. George McClellan together in a battle that changed the direction of the Civil War.
This one day is regarded as the singlest bloodiest day of the Civil War. The Union side loss 12,410 men and the Confederate side lost 10,700.
