In one of the largest tree moving operations ever done, 4 Aleppo pines were moved to a different location on the campus to make way for an expanded sports complex near McKale. Boxed up, each tree weighs about 90,000 lbs. and the hugh crane in this photo is centering the chains down through the top of the tree. Each chain was attached to the corners of the box and the lifting began.
After this tree was slowly and carefully lifted and placed in its new "home", all of us watching brought out in applause for a job well done.
At first the trees were going to be cut down but with many people protesting UA had the trees examined and deemed them strong enough for the move.
