Built for the 1939 movie ARIZONA (available on DVD at Netflix), this world famous movie set saw many famous stars walk its streets. The grounds were opened to the public for the first time in 1960.
Before a devastating 1995 arson fire destroyed 40% of the historic building sets, movies like RIO BRAVO, MCCLINTOCK, TOMBSTONE, and GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL were filmed here. Episodes of BONANZA, LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, and HIGH CHAPARRAL were also filmed here.
Today you can visit the newly recreated sets and see live action shows. The photo shown here was taken at a show in front of the famous chapel.
Old Tucson's "sister" movie site is Mescal just down the road south of Tucson.
If you're a movie buff, both of these places are a "must see."
