This part of the highway is now used as a walking trail and leads hikers up to the Laurel Hill chute where emigrants lowered their wagons while traveling the Barlow Road of the Oregon Trail. It's a beautful walk through the trees and must have been spectacular for drivers to come through this part of of the road. I have not been able to find any information on the closing of this section of the road.
