Steins Pillar

Off Highway 27 near Prineville

A 400 foot volcanic plug, this monolith was named after Major Enock Steen and is located in the Ochocho National Forest.
It was climbed for the first time in 1950 and is all that remains of a lava field that existed here thousands of years ago.
(pronounced "Steens")
