In 1971 the famed London Bridge came to Lake Havasu. When the bridge, that once spanned the Thames River, was found to be sinking it was put up for sale and Robert McCulloch placed the winning bid of $2,460,000. After winning the bid, the bridge was disassembled and numbered piece by piece (some of the original numbering is still visible), shipped to Long Beach, and trucked over to Lake Havasu at an additional cost of $4,000.000.
You can drive or walk over it and there's a shopping area beneath filled with English-Tudor shops.
The bridge was built in 1831 out of granite quarried in Dartmoor.
A delightful area to visit. And a beautiful bridge to boot.
