We live on the southern edge of Ontario, one of five of the Great Lakes. January is typically
overcast due to something called "Lake Effect". Cold air, typically from Canada, passes across Lake
Ontario. At this time of year, the temperature of Lake Ontario is typically warmer than the land
temperature. This results in a lot of clouds, sometimes a lot of localized snow squalls, and in
general, a lot of overcast/gloomy days.
