The Rembrandt House Museum is a house where the painter Rembrandt van Rijn lived and painted for a
number of years. Rembrandt purchased the house in 1639 for 13,000 guilders, a huge amount in those
days, and lived there for a number of years without paying his mortgage. He went bankrupt in 1656 and
all his belongings went on auction. It was recently reconstructed to show how the house would have
looked in Rembrandt's days. The auction list enabled the reconstructions of all his belongings which
are also on display in the house.
