The Outdoor Privy

May Challenge: Memories

This reminds me of some weekends we spent in the Adirondack Mountains. I remember one time going out to the outhouse late at night. We were far from civilization and my father came out to make sure that I got there and back okay. Unfortunately, I didn't hear him come out of the cabin. I wonder if the trees and animals covered their ears when they heard my shriek!

You jogged a memory of mine.

Speaking of shrieks. Back when I was 15 I went to a "summer camp" which really was a farm near Troy NY. It was operated by a teacher, his wife, and teenage daughter and had about eight of us campers. Our parents paid to have us work on a farm. There was only running water in the kitchen, but there were several out houses. One was a two hole privy. One hot day when it was common to leave the door open I came around the corner and faced the lady of the house and her daughter sitting side by side.
