Cambrai is a French city with 31,568 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in northern France.
The city was heavily damaged in World War I and later in World War II.
In 1917, the Battle of Cambrai took place here, which became known as the first major tank battle in history.
The German troops set fire to the city before retreating in 1918. The entire city center had to be rebuilt. Of the city's 2,500 buildings, 1,500 were completely destroyed.
