Hermit Warbler passing through the Sierra Nevada Mtns. east of the crest at 8200 feet. This rare visitor to our side of the crest hybridizes with Townsend's Warbler where their range overlaps. Breeding territory is in western coniferous forests from west Washington and locally to the central Cascades; breeds in Oregon in the Blue and Wallowa mountains and south in the Sierra's to Kern Co. Winters in west montane Mexico, south through the highlands of meso-America to Nicaragua. I believe this is a hybridized Hermit x Townsend's Warbler. I base this on the facial markings and yellow extending into the chest. Beautiful little bird.
