After the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Taliban came into Tajikistan from neighboring Afghanistan and fomented civil war there that the Russians eventually put down, but in the process, the Taliban destroyed much of the infrastructure of Tajikistan including world-class aquaculture facilities.
