Small tanks such as these can be used to grow catfish larvae to fingerling stock out size. Putting the larvae or fry into earthen ponds too early exposes them to aquatic insects that can eat them. In the protected environment of the concrete tanks, they can be grown to a size that can eat the insects instead.
