Riverdance (BHS 6041/77) was hit by a freak wave during a storm on 31 Jan 2008, as it was entering Morecambe Bay, en-route Warrenpoint to Heysham. The vessel subsequently lost power and drifted, finishing up on Cleveleys beach a few hundred meters from the promenade. Little progress was made in getting the ship upright again and further bad weather simply helped increase the list until it eventually finished up on its' side and started sinking into the sand. Subsequently the vessel was declared a total loss and breaking-up operations were started by early May.
