We experienced nostalgia when we attended the Scandinavian Christmas Fair at the Swedish Church in Melbourne. People, goods and crafts, food and entertainment reminded us of how much we enjoyed our stay in Stockholm in July.
The fine mansion in leafy Toorak was built in 1849 and was used as the home of the governors between 1866 and 1879. The church chapel was added to the mansion in 1956 when the residence became the Swedish Consulate in Melbourne.
There is now a cafe and a shop and people can enjoy the extensive gardens. We first visited this Christmas Market some years ago after a home exchange in Stockholm. Since then, due to the COVID pandemic, the Market has been scaled down with just inside stalls of handicrafts, groceries and a simple menu of Swedish food.
