2008 A three night stop-over on our way to Thailand, re-visiting favourite places from previous trips and discovering new aspects. It is a modern and progressive independent country with a happy and harmonious mix of Asian cultures and religions.
2013 Three nights as a stop over on my own on way to Bangkok when I enjoyed many familiar sights, especially around Chinatown where I stayed, but hardly daring to venture much further for fear of getting lost. However I took a taxi to the latest and rather stunning Singapore sight, Gardens by the Bay, with its towering vertical gardens, themed gardens including Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern and two huge domed conservatories - the Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome. There is also a huge new and stunning hotel and casino in view nearby. The top of the triple towers has an enormous swimming pool. What next?
2014, another brief visit on our return from nine weeks in Europe, confirms the major dramatic changes continuing in this great country. Huge buildings continue to rise above the iconic street-scapes of Chinatown and similar areas, rejuvenated squares celebrate the history of Singapore - a welcome sight, and Marina Bay Sands, the awesome new hotel stands high in the sky above old classics such as The Fullerton. We continue to enjoy Singapore, a great destination for a stopover, wonderful to continue exploring favourite areas and new and, of course, the best of SE Asian food.
