Centred in the heart of Victoria’s Golden Triangle, Maryborough is midway between Bendigo and Ballarat, making this picturesque town the perfect base to explore the goldfields of Victoria.

Our cottage was named after the Welcome Stranger nugget, found in 1869 by Cornish miner, John Season Richard Oates, the largest pure alluvial gold nugget ever found in the world. It was worth 10,000 pounds - around $3-4 million in today's money.

We enjoyed exploring Maryborough in a more leisurely way than just a day visit. It has large parks, public gardens and sporting grounds and a beautiful lake, seen when we were there, with idyllic reflections of trees lining the edges.
