Daylesford in country Victoria, nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and the heart of Victoria's spa country, is barely two hours from Melbourne. This is a popular town with many attractions. Alluvial gold was found here in 1851 and fine Victorian homes, hotels and public buildings were built as the town was settled. It is now a destination for day trips and longer holidays, a pretty town in all seasons. Lake Daylesford and the Boathouse, the Book Barn, Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens and the Convent Gallery are all enjoyable places to explore and the small village of Hepburn Springs, just north of Daylesford, nestled among spreading European trees and native bushland has been a health resort since Victorian times.
"The historic Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa has been welcoming visitors since 1895 to bathe in the region’s mineral waters. An icon of the region, the Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa is nestled within the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve near picturesque Hepburn Springs and Daylesford, and draws mineral waters directly from the source to offer a unique spa and bathhouse experience..... "European style gardens were planted out to frame and meander around the original stone buildings. Productive vegetable and herb gardens were established to supply the cafe, La Trattoria. Lavender was planted out to provide quality materials for the creation of farm-made body lotions and creams, room mists and insecticides, and essential oil...." Guide
