River Danube 2015

On our second visit to Vienna in 2015 we took a suggested trip to enjoy the unique Wachau valley, one of the loveliest stretches of the River Danube. This area is included in the UNESCO world heritage list for its exceptional beauty and includes medieval castles, picturesque villages, giant monastries and terraced vineyards.

The trip is by train from Vienna, through pretty countryside, to the town of Melk and from there by boat downriver to the larger town of Krems, before boarding the train back to Vienna. We chose to spend more time in Melk, thankfully, as it was so lovely, and stayed overnight, then taking the boat to Krems earlier the next day, giving ourselves even more than the suggested time in Krems.

Linnie, this is the way you will see my reply at present! Yes!!! Cyclists everywhere, very popular route along the river and they can get on and off the boats with their bicycles.

It is always a pleasure to see your photos. each one is like receiving a post card. You have captured the different colors of the sky, along with selecting architecture of interest. I wonder if there is a bike path along the river. What a ride that would be!
