Mustangs: 2012

Despite the massive roundup in 2011 the remaining horses are looking good and showing more color due probably to the releases of new blood into the area. I have also seen about 6 foals to date. I had thought foals were a thing of the past. I am seeing most of the horses in the Pilot Butte area. In the northern area, such as Alkali Draw, I am seeing very few horses. This is a vast area and several hundred horses can just disappear.

Maybe the horses are looking good because of the roundups as there is little food in desert environments, so the removal of the horses resulted in more grasses for the remaining ones. Nice images.

Really enjoyed another run thru your photos. You have some very good images of the stallions fighting. Especially liked the image of the stallion toppling over from the rearing up position.
